Ronnie Rector’s cheerful compositions tell a story and demonstrate her love of painting.
Rector’s show will be in the Community Center’s Crowell Board Room, from July 10 through October 19, 2023. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Tuesday, July 18, 5:00 – 6:30PM with an artist introduction at 5:30PM. The Community Center is located at 851 E William Street, Carson City. Rector said, “I love the watercolor medium. Watching what different colors do when they touch wet paper, the effects of salt on a wash, trying different techniques, creating something that ‘sings’ to me. My husband and I have lived full-time in the Lake Tahoe basin since 1992. I have yet to come up with a good Artist’s Statement except that I wish I had more time to paint and I hope my work catches your eye, takes you on a short holiday, and makes you smile.”
Rector started painting in 2008 after signing her Girl Scout troop up for a watercolor workshop. They had so much fun that she decided to sign up for the adult workshop. She joined a Reno watercolor group in 2009 in order to learn from broadly recognized artists, Charles Reid, John Salminen, Michael Reardon, and Gerald Brommer. She works full time as a Public Works Contracts Administrator and volunteers with local non-profit groups. Her watercolors have been juried into national and international exhibits receiving numerous awards, and recently published in SPLASH 18. In September, 2023, Rector was awarded the Gold Award from the Transparent Watercolor Society of America for her painting, Legacy.
